Sprint Toward the Fourth Quarter | Setting a New Record with the Seventh Large LNG Carrier Delivered This Year

On December 6, the 174,000-cubic-meter large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Hulettan” was named and delivered at Shanghai Changxing Island. The vessel was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), in cooperation with CSSC International Trade Corporation for QatarEnergy.

This marks not only the third vessel of its type completed and delivered for QatarEnergy’s “100-Vessel Project”, but also the seventh LNG carrier delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua this year, setting a new annual delivery record for LNG carriers among Chinese shipbuilders.

The “Hulettan” is the latest model of Hudong-Zhonghua’s independently developed and designed fifth-generation “Changheng Series” 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier.

Since delivering the first vessel for QatarEnergy’s “100-Vessel Project” on September 12 this year, Hudong-Zhonghua has continued to focus on key areas including efficient dock outfitting, rapid terminal commissioning, and optimized sea trial procedures. Centering on two major construction lines—the containment system and cryogenic liquid cargo system—the company has innovated and optimized construction processes, fully promoted digital shipbuilding, and successfully delivered three LNG carriers in succession, achieving a new “acceleration” in China’s shipbuilding industry.

Since the beginning of this year, Hudong-Zhonghua has secured construction orders for 24 ultra-large LNG carriers with a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters and 12 large LNG carriers with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters under QatarEnergy’s “100-Vessel Project.” In terms of both contract value and LNG carrying capacity, the company ranks first among shipyards worldwide.
