Contracts Signed! Two 307,000-DWT VLCCs Added to the Orderbook

Recently, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with CSSC International Trade Corporation, held an online signing ceremony with Dynacom Tankers Management, a company under Greek shipowner George Procopiou, for the construction of two 307,000-deadweight-ton very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

The vessels are independently developed and designed by DSIC. In 2022, DSIC delivered two 307,000-DWT VLCCs to Dynacom, and the newly signed vessels represent a continued upgrade of the previous design.

The new VLCCs have an overall length of approximately 333 meters, a molded breadth of 60 meters, a molded depth of 30 meters, and a deadweight capacity of around 307,000 tonnes. The vessels comply with global and Emission Control Area (ECA) requirements for NOx (nitrogen oxides) and SOx (sulfur oxides) emissions, making them a green VLCC design featuring energy efficiency, strong port adaptability, and high market competitiveness.

Following contract effectiveness, the vessels will be constructed at DSIC’s Tianjin Base. Under DSIC’s strategic layout of “one headquarters and three bases,” the Tianjin Base focuses on the construction of medium- and large-sized commercial vessels.

Including the two newly signed VLCCs, the Tianjin Base currently holds orders for 20 vessels of various types, with delivery schedules extending to 2027. Its customers include leading global shipping companies such as Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and CMA CGM.

As one of China’s leading VLCC builders, DSIC has historically constructed and delivered more than 100 VLCCs for domestic and international shipowners, ranking first in China in terms of delivery volume.

The signing of these two VLCC contracts marks DSIC’s role in breaking the recent global shortage of VLCC orders and returning to the forefront of VLCC construction. In April this year, the two parties also signed contracts for 10 product tankers with a capacity of 115,000 tonnes each. The renewed cooperation on the VLCC project further demonstrates the long-term trust and strong partnership between the two sides.
