CCTV Morning News: China’s Largest Southeast Coastal Maritime Patrol and Rescue Vessel Successfully Launched
On February 8, the “Haixun 06”, a 5,000-ton-class large maritime patrol and rescue vessel designed by the No.701 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, was officially launched at Wuchang Shipbuilding’s Shuangliu Shipbuilding Base.
Upon entering service, the “Haixun 06” will become the largest maritime patrol and rescue vessel stationed along China’s southeastern coast.
On February 9, China Central Television’s “Morning News” (朝闻天下) featured a detailed report on the vessel.
Construction of the “Haixun 06” began in May 2019. The vessel is expected to enter service with the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration by the end of the year, where it will undertake missions including:
Maritime traffic patrol and supervision;
Emergency rescue operations;
National maritime regulatory and emergency response missions when deployed;
International maritime cooperation and exchange activities.
The vessel will play an important role in ensuring maritime transportation safety, protecting the marine environment, safeguarding national maritime interests, and promoting cross-Strait exchanges.
The “Haixun 06” is equipped with advanced integrated systems, including:
Electro-optical tracking systems;
Radar remote sensing and measurement systems;
Shore-based information loading systems;
Maritime data center;
Multi-link integrated communication systems.
These systems provide comprehensive capabilities for maritime traffic safety monitoring, early warning, and information processing.
The vessel is also equipped with a range of emergency response systems, including:
Rescue capacity for up to 200 people in the water;
Basic medical treatment facilities;
Medium-sized helicopter landing capability;
External firefighting systems;
Oil spill response equipment.
The vessel has:
Length overall: 128.6 meters
Molded breadth: 16 meters
Molded depth: 7.9 meters
Designed displacement: 5,560 tons
Design speed: 20 knots
Range: 10,000 nautical miles
With unlimited navigation capability, the vessel can remain at sea for 60 days without external resupply, supporting long-duration maritime patrol and rescue missions.
The “Haixun 06” is capable of:
Conducting cross-region patrols in Force 12 winds and sea conditions up to Beaufort Force 9;
Carrying out maritime law enforcement evidence collection and command operations in Force 11 winds and sea conditions up to Beaufort Force 7;
Performing helicopter operations or lifesaving missions using rescue baskets and climbing nets in Force 7 winds and sea conditions up to Beaufort Force 5.
The launch of the “Haixun 06” marks another important achievement in China’s high-end maritime equipment development and strengthens the country’s capabilities in maritime safety, emergency rescue, and ocean governance.
