Recently, the 711 Research Institute signed a supply contract for the main propulsion systems of two multi-purpose ro-ro ships with a lane length of 2,700 meters with Bohai Hengtong Ferry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary under Bohai Ferry Holdings. This marks another expansion of the 711 Research Institute into the integrated propulsion system business for ro-ro vessels following its previous undertaking for Yuehai Railway train ferries.
Designed entirely by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute and constructed by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., these vessels secured the order for the Institute amid fierce competition. The 711 Research Institute stood out from numerous bidders thanks to its cutting-edge technical proposals and comprehensive service system recognized by the client, and will deliver integrated supply of a complete set of main propulsion system solutions for the ships.
Each ship has an overall length of 189.9 meters, a deadweight tonnage of approximately 8,600 tons at design draft and around 10,600 tons at structural draft. It features roughly 2,700 meters of lanes each 3 meters wide, with a designed speed of no less than 17 knots. The 711 Research Institute will supply equipment including main diesel engines, elastic couplings, reduction gearboxes, shafting, controllable pitch propellers, and main propulsion remote control systems for the vessels.
